RRB Group D Selection Process 2026-27

Our team has analyzed the CEN 09/2025 notification to provide you with this definitive multi-stage breakdown:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT) This is the most critical stage. You will face 100 questions in 90 minutes. Only the marks obtained here determine your final merit position.
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark for every wrong answer.
  • Shortlisting: Approximately 3 times the number of vacancies are called for the next stage based on CBT scores.
  1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Once you clear the CBT, you must prove your physical fitness. This stage is qualifying only—no marks are added, but failing means immediate disqualification.
  • For Male Candidates: Lift and carry 35 kg for 100 meters (in 2 minutes) and run 1000 meters in 4 minutes 15 seconds.
  • For Female Candidates: Lift and carry 20 kg for 100 meters (in 2 minutes) and run 1000 meters in 5 minutes 40 seconds.
  1. Document Verification (DV) If you pass the physical test, we will see you called for a thorough check of your original certificates. Our advice is to keep your 10th/ITI certificates and Category proofs ready in advance.
  2. Medical Examination The final hurdle! You will be sent to a Railway Hospital for a fitness check. Each post has a specific “Medical Standard” (A-2, B-1, etc.).
  • Visual Standards: Most posts require distant vision of 6/9 or 6/12 with or without glasses.
  • General Fitness: You must be physically fit in all respects to perform the arduous duties of the Indian Railways.

Expert Insight for You

We have noticed that many candidates focus 100% on the CBT but forget to build the stamina needed for the PET. You should ideally start light jogging the moment you feel confident about your CBT performance to ensure you don’t miss out at the final stages.

FAQs

Q: What is the Group D exam date?
A: Per the RRB Annual Calendar 2026-27, the notification is released in October 2026, with exams following in early 2027.

Q: Is ITI mandatory for RRB Group D?

A: Yes, for most technical posts like Track Maintainer and Assistant Workshop, 10th + ITI/NAC is mandatory as per current Railway Board rules.

Q: I have a gap year after my 10th/12th; am I still eligible for the 2026 cycle?

A: Absolutely! We want to clarify that your gap years do not matter for RRB eligibility. As long as you meet the age criteria (18–36 years for this cycle) and have your 10th/ITI passing certificate ready by the time of registration, you are fully eligible to apply.

Q: Can I apply for more than one Railway Zone?

A: No, and this is a common mistake we see students make. You can only submit one application to one specific Railway Zone. If you try to apply for multiple zones, your application may be rejected entirely. We recommend checking the zone-wise vacancy table carefully before choosing.

Q: What happens if I miss the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) date?

A: From our experience, the Railways are very strict with their schedule. Unless there is a massive technical issue from the RRB’s side, you will not get a second chance. We advise you to start practicing for the 35kg/20kg weight carry and the 1km run at least two months before the results are announced.

Q: I made a mistake in my Aadhar number during OTR. Can I fix it?

A: Modifications to your registration details (like name, mobile, and email) are generally not allowed once your account is created. However, for other fields, you can use the correction window by paying a nominal modification fee. Our team highly suggests double-checking every digit before clicking ‘Submit.’

Q: Is the ₹400/₹250 refund automatic?

A: Yes, but only if you actually show up for the exam! We have noticed many students forget to update their latest bank account details in the portal. To ensure your refund reaches you, double-check the bank account and IFSC code you provide during the application.
