Important Dates, Syllabus, Eligibility Criteria, Exam Pattern & Mock Test of UGC NET:

UGC NET stands for University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test. The National Testing Agency conducts this examination twice a year on the national level. to shortlist candidates for the position of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in universities and colleges. Previously this examination was conducted by the CBSE but after June 2018 UGC took the conduct under themselves. This examination is held twice a year in June and December. However, the dates for the UGC NET 2021 sessions are still to be announced. Students can check the latest information on the UGC NET examination on the official NTA website.

The eligibility criteria to apply for the UGC NET examination are as follows. It is important to have a minimum of 55 percent aggregate marks in the post-graduation to apply for this examination. For a junior research fellowship, the candidate should not be of more than 31 years. However, there are no age restrictions to apply for the post of Assistant professor. Candidates who fall under the reserved category will get an age relaxation of five years.

UGC NET is an online examination of 3 hours where the candidates have to answer 150 questions. There would be 2 sections in the question paper. The first section is common for every candidate but the second section of the examination is based on selected subjects. The first section is teaching & research aptitude. There will be 50 questions in this section of 2 marks each. The second section of the examination is a Subject-specific section of the question. In this section, candidates will get questions from a particular subject or post for which they have applied for. UGC NET 2021

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

Firstly read the eligibility criteria before applying for the examination as if applicants found ineligible then he/she will be not be considered for the further examination process. Read the detailed eligibility criteria below.

Age Limit

  • JRF – The general and SC/ST/OBC category candidate’s age must be 30 and 25 years old, respectively.
  • Assistant Professor – No Age Foundation.

Age Relaxation

  • Experienced candidates (in the research field only) will be given 5 years of age relaxation.
  • The one who has dome LLM must be 33 years old.
  • Candidates who served armed forces are given 5 years of relaxation.

Qualification Criteria

  • The candidates should have completed masters in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science, and Applications, Electronic Science, etc (list of subjects given below).
  • The general and SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates in master must have scored 55% and 50% aggregate marks, respectively.

UGC NET Syllabus

Among 85 subject candidates have to choose any of the subjects at one time candidates can appear for a single exam. Different subjects are containing different topics and as per the mentioned topics, the question will be asked in the examination.
