UGC NET stands for University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test. The National Testing Agency conducts this examination twice a year on the national level. to shortlist candidates for the position of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in universities and colleges. Previously this examination was conducted by the CBSE but after June 2018 UGC took the conduct under themselves. This examination is held twice a year in June and December. The eligibility criteria to apply for the UGC NET examination are as follows. It is important to have a minimum of 55 percent aggregate marks in the post-graduation to apply for this examination. For a junior research fellowship, the candidate should not be of more than 31 years. However, there are no age restrictions to apply for the post of Assistant professor. Candidates who fall under the reserved category will get an age relaxation of five years.
UGC NET is an online examination of 3 hours where the candidates have to answer 150 questions. There would be 2 sections in the question paper. The first section is common for every candidate but the second section of the examination is based on selected subjects. The first section is teaching & research aptitude. There will be 50 questions in this section of 2 marks each. The second section of the examination is a Subject-specific section of the question. In this section, candidates will get questions from a particular subject or post for which they have applied for.
