GATE Exam Pattern 2026: The 15-13-72 Rule

Understanding the marking scheme is vital for ranking the GATE exam pattern. For most engineering papers, the 100 marks are distributed as: 15 Marks (General Aptitude) + 13 Marks (Engineering Mathematics) + 72 Marks (Core Subject).

Note: For papers like AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH, and XL, the Engineering Mathematics portion is replaced by additional subject questions (15 GA + 85 Subject = 100 Marks).

Question Types MCQs, MSQs (Multiple Select), and NAT
Negative Marking 1/3 for 1-mark MCQ; 2/3 for 2-mark MCQ. No negative marking for MSQ and NAT.
