The scholarship is named after the Indian Hindu monk and philosopher Vivekananda, which was started by the Government of West Bengal, to provide financial assistance to all those who are suffering from the financial crisis despite not being able to pursue further studies.

This scholarship provides a decent amount to help its beneficiaries in their studies. The SVMCM scholarship amount ranges from Rs. 12,000 to 96,000 Rupees per year depending on the course.
