Know the Exam Pattern, Eligibility Criteria, and Qualification of RBI SO examination

The Reserve Bank of India conducts the RBI SO examination every year to shortlist candidates for special posts in different departments. RBI conducts this examination once a year. So, if you have been waiting for this examination since last year then be ready. The Reserve Bank of India is going to announce the application dates soon. The candidates will get to see the detailed information of this examination on the RBI website after the RBI announces the dates.

RBI SO shortlist the candidates for the position of Data analytics, forensics, finance, professional copy editing, HR management are many other posts. So the difficulty level of this examination is moderate. This is an online examination where the students will get the questions in the format of the multiple-choice type. There will be three sections in the RBI SO exam. All of the sections would be through online mode. But the student should need to have specialization for the particular post for which he is applying.

All three sections of the RBI SO examination is of 100 marks. The students have 90 minutes to solve each section. The first section of the examination will be 65 questions depending upon the post candidate has applied for. In the second section, students will get questions from English literature. They have a time limit of 90 minutes to solve the second section of the RBI SO examination.

The third section is the final and the most important section of all. In this section, the students have to answer descriptive-type questions. This is an offline examination where you have to use pen and paper to answer the question. There will be a total of 10 questions in the third section among which the candidates have to answer a minimum of 5 questions. This section is of 100 marks and the aspirants will get 90 minutes to solve this section.

The entire section procedure of the RBI SO examination is followed by a personal interview. Students who qualify for the written/online examination will get a call for a personal interview. The candidate should be of Indian nationality to apply for the RBI SO examination. Also, the upper age limit to apply for this examination is 34 years and the candidate should not be of less than 24 years of age. Additionally, there will be a document verification round after the selection of the candidates. In this round, you have to show your government-authorized identity proof to get hired for the post.

Eligibility Criteria for RBI SO Exam

 The eligibility criteria are always set by the reserve bank authority which is mandatory for candidates to fulfil. The candidates must check the eligibility criteria before applying for the exam otherwise you won’t be allowed to sit in the examination hall. Also mark before applying for the post and see whether you meet the eligibility criteria.


  • The candidates appearing for the RBI SO exam should be a citizen of India.
  • The candidates from Nepal and Bhutan are allowed to give the exam for 2021.

Age limit

  • The lower age limit of the candidate should not be less than 24 years whereas the upper age limit of the candidate should not exceed 34 years of age.
  • For the reserved categories, the candidates will be given age relaxation especially for SC/ST/OBC, etc.
  • For the exam, the candidate’s date of birth mentioned on their SSC passing certificate will be given consideration.
  • Physically challenged candidates can appear for the exam and they have a special quota according to the position.
  • Ex-servicemen are also included in a reserved category.

Education Qualification

The educational qualification for the RBI SO is given below for which aspirants can check the site online and download all necessary information. Data Analytics

  • The candidate must be a 2 year MBA in finance or M stat with at least 55 percent in the academics from a recognized university or institution.
  • The candidate must at least have three years of experience as a data entry operator in a commercial bank.


  • A candidate must hold a degree in PG in Economics or MBA finance, commerce, PGDM with 55% marks from a recognized Indian or a foreign institute.

Human Resource Management

  • The candidate must hold a PG in human resource management or labour welfare or personnel management from a recognized Indian or a foreign institute.
  • The aspirants should have a working experience of human resource management or in industrial relations or personnel management in banks for at least three years.

Risk Modelling

  • The aspirant should hold a PG in economics, MBA finance, commerce, PGDM finance with aggregate marks from a recognized Indian university or a foreign university.
  • The experience in NBFC or scheduled bank for 3 years is mandatory.

Professional Copy Editing

  • The aspirant with PG in English with at least 55% marks from a recognized university is eligible for the exam.
  • The aspirant must know the Hindi language.
  • The candidate must have experience in a publishing house of at- least three years.

Forensic Audit

  • The candidates with ICWA/CA with certification course on forensic accounting and fraud detection by ICAI are eligible.
  • Candidate with three years of experience in forensic audit in central or state government is eligible.
